Which reformer class is right for me?
Each reformer page is written around a different starting point, so you can choose by experience, support needs and how you want to work.
A clear first step for people who are new to the reformer or returning after time away.
IntermediateFor people who know the equipment and want more challenge, flow and refinement.
Older bodiesSteady, intelligent reformer work for strength, balance and confidence as bodies change.
Private sessionsOne-to-one support across reformer, mat, yoga or somatic work.
What it is
Reformer Pilates uses a spring-loaded carriage to support, challenge and refine the way your body moves. The work can feel subtle at first, then very clear the next day.
Classes at Root are built around control, strength, mobility and breath. You will not be rushed through shapes for the sake of it. The point is to move better, not simply to do more.
Who it suits
Beginner-friendly, but never generic.
Reformer Pilates can work for beginners, returning movers and people who already train regularly. The equipment lets the teacher scale the work up or down without losing the quality of the movement.
If you are new, start with a beginner-friendly class or get in touch before booking. If you are managing an injury, pregnancy or a medical condition, check with a qualified clinician first and let the teacher know before class.
What to expect
Expect a small class, clear teaching and a steady pace. You will use the carriage, straps, footbar and springs to work through controlled movements that build strength and awareness.
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in. Grip socks are useful on the reformer. Many people stay for coffee or food afterwards, which is one of the nice things about having the cafe in the same building.
Before you arrive
- Wear comfortable clothes you can move in.
- Grip socks are recommended for reformer classes.
- Tell the teacher before class if you are pregnant, injured or managing a condition.
