Somatic coaching with Mavra

What it is

Somatic coaching is a body-centred approach that works with physical sensation, emotion and intuition alongside thought and language. Rather than simply talking about a problem, you learn to notice what the body is already trying to say about it.

The core technique Mavra uses is Focusing — a gentle, precise practice developed by philosopher Eugene Gendlin that helps you access the body's inner knowing. It can bring clarity to decisions, dissolve internal blocks and open up a more honest relationship with yourself.

Who it suits

For individuals, and for couples.

Somatic coaching works well for individuals dealing with anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, inner criticism or a sense of being stuck — particularly when you can feel something is in the way but struggle to name it clearly.

Mavra also works with couples who want to communicate better, understand each other's nervous systems and find a more grounded, connected way of being together. It is not couples therapy, but it can change how two people listen to each other.

What to expect

Sessions begin with a free discovery call so Mavra can understand where you are and whether somatic coaching is the right fit. There is no pressure to commit before that conversation.

Work is tailored to each person or couple. The pace is steady and the approach is practical — you will leave sessions with something you can feel and use, not just think about.

Common questions

What is Focusing?

Focusing is a body-centred practice developed by philosopher Eugene Gendlin. It invites you to attend to a felt sense in the body — a not-quite-words knowing — and work with it gently. It can bring clarity to things that feel stuck or unclear.

Is somatic coaching the same as therapy?

No, though the two can complement each other. Somatic coaching works with where you are now and where you want to go, using the body as a resource. It is not psychotherapy and does not treat clinical conditions.

Can couples do this even if things are not in crisis?

Yes. Somatic coaching for couples is often most useful as a deepening practice — improving communication and connection before problems become entrenched, not only as a repair.
